The Fennes Braintree

My Uncle got remarried last year at a truly stunning venue called The Fennes which is just outside Braintree in Essex.  I had to pick my brother up from the Midlands on the morning of the wedding, so I booked into a cheap Birmingham hotel for the night beforehand to ensure that I didn’t get stuck in the M6 traffic on the big day itself.

The Fennes is a stunning Georgian Manor House which has been hosting weddings for over 14 years. It’s located in the picturesque village of Bocking in Essex, and to reach the venue you have to drive along many a quaint village back road.

The House owns over 100 acres of tranquil Essex countryside and if you book a wedding there you are entitled to exclusive use the entire grounds and venue for the whole day of your wedding. Some parts of The Fennes date as early as the 15th century, but most of the location has a definite Georgian feel with high ceilings and lots of space.

If you’re only planning on having a small ceremony (and let’s face it, that’s always a good way to keep down costs!) there is a fantastically decorated drawing room with large sash windows that overlook the perfectly landscaped gardens.  This room is licensed to hold small wedding ceremonies and an official registrar will be provided by The Fennes.

Having arrived in Essex, I quickly picked a couple of other guests up from their Braintree hotels and set off towards the venue. We were greeted by flutes of champagne and orange juice for all the guests to enjoy, and we mingled around the library until the time for ceremony had arrived.

Later on, we enjoyed a fantastic wedding reception meal prepared by top class chefs. The food was delicious and I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The night rounded off with a wedding reception disco. Yes, there were the traditional little boys flying around the dance floor pretending to be aeroplanes, but all in all that just added to the fun and atmosphere of the day.
