Visit the GoMA while in Glasgow

While Glasgow is home to some of the most interesting historical sites and museums, it also contains the most visited modern art gallery in all of Scotland.

Most visitors choose to view the historical treasures, but in doing so, they may neglect some of the cities modern wonders as well. This old city with modern sensibilities has spent considerable resources to show the world that it too, has kept up with the times in social, civic, political and artistic arenas. The GoMA is a perfect example and extension of this modernism in action.

The Gallery of Modern art is housed right near the center of Glasgow in an old Iconic building that also houses the city centre Library. The city considers it’s modern museum a centerpiece of its cultural heritage, even if the majority of their holdings are contemporary.

For many years, nearly 100 in fact, the building was a home to business and commercial exchange interests, where the trade in goods and information were lively ventures. Today, in a strictly cultural sense, the building still contains the same tradition where ideas and information are shared, but the trade revolves around the modern art world. Seminars and classes where artists share information and technique dominate the halls here now, instead of talk of trade ad business concerns.

Visitors to Glasgow who appreciate modern art will have no trouble locating the gallery as it sits near the heart of Glasgow. All of the Luxury Glasgow hotels will be able to furnish instructions on how to find it, as well as arranging transportation when needed. Travel distances are so negligible there, that even if you are staying at a Cairngorms hotel, someone will be able to tell you how best to travel to see the site. It’s one of Glasgow’s refined cultural treasures that should not be missed.
